Poetry and Music of All the Faiths
A meditation upon belief, doubt and disbelief
Friday 23 May 2008
7pm – 8.30pm
Midmar Church, Midmar [Venue 17]
Admission Free
In association with the Minister and parishioners of Midmar Church,
Dead Good Poets will stage an event in the church celebrating all the main
world religions.
Poets Ian Crockatt, Gerard Rochford and Maureen Ross are joined
by Morag Skene, (singer) and Ian Watt (guitar) in a programme which
will explore the experiences of belief, doubt and disbelief.
|
Ian Crockatt was born in Perth in 1949, and now lives and works in North
Aberdeenshire. His poetry is widely published in magazines and anthologies, and
has won prizes in two national competitions.
His poetry collections include Flood Alert (Chapman, 1996), Original Myths
(Cruachan Publications, 2000), (shortlisted for the Saltire Society's Scottish Book
of the Year Award) The Crucifixion Bird (Northwords Folios, 2002), Blizzards
of the Inner Eye (Peterloo Poets, 2003) and The Lyrical Beast (CD,
Salix Publications, 2004). The Lyrical Beast, a series of 42 sonnets exploring
the relationship between our animal and artistic instincts, is perhaps his most
ambitious collection to date.
|
|
Gerard Rochford's poetry publications include Three Way Street, and
The Holy Family and Other Poems, both published by Koo Press. He is a founder
member of Dead Good Poets, convenor of their poetry readings at Books and Beans,
and a poetry editor for Pushing Out the Boat. He is included in Janice Galloway's
selection of Best 20 Scottish poems of 2006, for the Scottish Poetry Library.
|
|
Maureen Ross lives and works in the North-East of Scotland where she was
born and brought up. She mainly writes poetry and is published in various anthologies
and journals. In 2006 her first collection of poems Day Moth was published
by Koo Press. She is a member of the Huntly Writers and regularly takes part in
readings and event. Recently she has become interested in collaborative work with
other artists.

|
Morag Skene was born and brought up in the North-East of Scotland. She even
lives in a lovely, traditional North-East farmhouse with a huge garden, just outside
Peterhead, which she would really enjoy if she was ever there. Unfortunately, Morag's
interests in writing, dancing, drama, her wee grandaughter, jazz and making a fool
of herself singing on open mic nights, mean she has to drag herself into the big
bad city of Aberdeen far too often!
|
|
Ian Watt made his recital debut at the age of fourteen at the first ever
North-East Scotland Classical Guitar Society concert. Since then, he has played
a concert at the prestigious Dundee Guitar Festival 2007, won the title of Ishoka
Aberdeen Young Musician of the Year and performed Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez
with the City of London Sinfonia in the final of BBC2's Classical Star competition.
