This event explores personal and professional perspectives on nursing,
healthcare, love and loss through the medium of poems and stories. The
contributors are Colin Macduff, Eddie Gibbons and Gerard Rochford.
The title of the event is from Colin's first collection of poems and stories
which is published in May 2007. Colin's contribution is drawn mostly from his
experiences as a nurse, educator and researcher.
Eddie will read mostly from his Republic of Ted collection of poems
written about the death of his father. These insights into the evolving
experience of bereavement have been critically acclaimed not only by other
writers, but also by healthcare professionals in the UK.
Gerard will read poems on the themes of love, loss and restoration drawn from
personal experience as well as from his experiences as a psychotherapist.

Colin Macduff started in wards as a Ward Orderly in a Glasgow
hospital in the early 1980s. Following training in mental health and general
nursing, he worked in various hospital settings in staff and charge nurse
positions. This, his first collection of poems and stories, draws on these
experiences and later jobs out wards as a researcher and educator in
nursing. Colin is currently Lecturer in Nursing at Robert Gordon University in
Aberdeen.
