Over the weekend of 2-3 May, all Wordfringe events take place at venues on the North
Aberdeenshire Coast. The venues themselves are remarkable in their different ways
— Duff House and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses with their fascinating
collections of artefacts, Portsoy's new arts venue the Salmon Bothy, and Pennan
Village Hall, now restored after the 2007 landslide.
Events in these venues include three launches of new publications — Douglas
W. Gray's poetry collection Lubrication, Olivia McMahon's novel Love as a
Foreign Language, and the new issue of Pushing Out the Boat, the
North-East's prestigious magazine of new writing.
The weekend also includes a maritime-themed evening featuring Stornoway coastguard
poet Ian Stephen with local guests, the first performance in Pennan of Richard Ingham's
From Pennan to Penang, and two events juxtaposing poetry with improvised
music.
