A celebration of the launch of Issue 7, with readings by the contributors
Thursday 1 May 2008
Aberdeen Arts Centre [Venue 5]
Pushing Out the Boat — a metaphor for extravagance perhaps, but here
the currency was words. A feast of riches at Aberdeen Arts Centre, where this stylish
showcase for Scottish talent was launched.
The treat was to hear writers reading their own work. Evocations of la condition
humaine aplenty: the sting of mental illness cleverly removed with gentle
humour; imaginary lovers; memories of grannies' sayings; mysteries of creation;
a violent incident retold backwards; a boy fishing with his grandfather; the simple
act of a child biting an apple. A variety of voices, all given life by their talented
authors.
