Just as the programme announced — Poems of Quality!
Anne Ryland who lives in the Borders recently celebrated the publication of her
collection Autumnologist from which she read most elegantly to a large and appreciative
audience hooked on every word. Anne Ryland does not just write poetry, she explores
poetry taking the written word to a new summit, opening new windows, shedding light
on the world through her fresh and most original voice.
Rhoda Michael who is currently editor of Northwords Now read from new work in progress
on the life of Abraham's elder son Ishmael. There is an almost photographic quality
to Rhoda's poetry with a strong story that stands alone and should not have required
such a lengthy introduction. However she was warmly received — an excellent
support for Anne.
Guest poets were favourites Judy Taylor who read as beautifully as ever, and Haworth
Hodgkinson with his thought provoking short poems and woodwind instrumentation,
with Olivia McMahon whose wit and wisdom captivated us once more.
