Combining words and pictures can be a risky undertaking: who needs words, you may
think, when a picture says so much on its own? But a picture can also prompt thoughts,
memories, explorations that go far beyond what it itself can show.
Poets Eddie Gibbons, Catriona Yule, Keith Murray, Paulina Vanderbilt and Gerard
Rochford took us on a journey that began with family photographs (many of these
touching and diverting in themselves) and led us through a whole landscape of thought:
parents watching their children, children watching parents and grandparents; adult
children looking back in understanding and forward in fear and hope; the small universals
rendered both intensely personal and completely universal.
Songs from Paulina and Morag Skene, and guitar from Ian Watt, helped build and shift
the atmospheres of this beautifully-judged event.
